History:
St. James is the newest incorporated township (1999) in Brunswick County. It is a fully-contained master planned community was designed by the developer “for a “Coasting” lifestyle, sustained by quality standards and a wide range of amenities, products and services that enhance the lifestyle and increase property values.”

1985 brought the initial site preparation and construction. In 1991 the first residential homes were built and the first golf course, The Gauntlet, was completed, with the Gauntlet Clubhouse opening the following year. In 1992 the Chapel was erected. 1995 to 1999 brought a flurry of construction. The Beach Club and the second golf course, The Members Club, including a clubhouse fitness center, indoor swimming pool and two state of the art tennis facilities and the third golf course, The Players Club, were completed. In 1999, the town of St. James was incorporated. Finally in 2000 the private St. James Marina opened.
